Title Between Two WorldsImage DescriptionIn the center

Everywhere I go, I see people trying to up their networth by upping their network at private social events. By sucking up to the rich and influential.

I do that at work, and I understand it. Because I subscribe to the capitalistic way of life. But choosing your tribe, your friends and allocating your time based on these factors is the shortcut to an unfulfilled life.

Our private circles should be reserved for those who meet different metrics: compassion, love, empathy, humor, and brutal honesty.

It is one of the reasons I never ever talk about my (very basic) monetary successes or even share a lot about my work with those outside of my first circle. In fact, most don’t even bother to ask, because they are so busy gloating about their own. But this saves me so much more time as I realize I have overestimated them and they have underestimated me.

Have rich work acquaintances, I get it. But have real friends. You can’t buy real connections and I am so sure many of us don’t have friends who we can call up and share things like childhood molestation, cheating on your partner, and wanting to run away from a marriage with. That’s life. So don’t be lonely there.
