A friend once told me, humans haven’t always fantasized traveling as a concept. We were very happy being in one place, until we were forced to move out.

Fast forward, we are so obsessed with it that someone else’s ‘amazing’ travel stories can also cause disappointment.

I do understand the idea of wanting to explore the world and experience different cultures, appreciate a variety of architecture, history, and food. But what I don’t understand is the society-driven pressure to be well traveled or ‘living the life’.

At this point, all my travel memories are locked in one big hazy ball in my head. Places start feeling the same, the food starts blending in my head.. what does remain is the little moments and hilarious stories you share with those you travel with or meet along the way.

All artwork at the Vatican might seem the same in your head after 5 years, but what will remain memorable is that your best friend farted in the middle of the ticket queue and everyone just died for a minute.

My point is, don’t travel to check something off your list, don’t travel to show the world that you did, don’t travel to feel accomplished. Travel because there are beautiful stories to collect along the way, amazing waiters to meet, good friends to share a dorm with, happy strangers to click a picture with and a lot more human engagement and cultural exchange.

Bhiwandi and Barcelona are all the same, if you are curious about the stories of those around you.
